1. My poor crushed XJ40
2. Inspiration from a lifted Lexus LS400 (pictured below)
3. A set of Range Rover 3-spoke wheels
4. Some 2" Chevy hubcentric spacers
5. Side pipe exhaust
You get a slightly lifted rally Jaaag with flared wheelarches and a digital dash. Stripped interior (might keep the leather front seats). ~1600kg ~240bhp (if not a little more). All for £250.
If I get the diff from a 2.9l auto the speedo will even be correct!
Picking up the wheels today :) here's some more pics for inspiration:

That was my first thought when I found out the Jag and Rangey had the same wheel stud pattern :)

I've been waiting for a go in your Spitfire, and now this? Stop making me jelly.
By the way, are you still looking for something for Mrs Biturbo?

I got really excited about your project when I saw side pipe exhaust on your list. This is a good idea.

I'll have to check with Automatch Tom how much to charge you as a finder's fee...
I nearly bought this last night, then came to my senses and didn't bid:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2717367857…
This morning, I emailed the seller to ask him to contact me if the deal falls through. There must be something wrong with me. There's also something wrong when the parts I need for the BMW cost more than a whole new car.

This I did not know. Both on GM-style 5/4.75"?

That LS400....only $3200 too

I've always thought that <£300 is throwaway money for a car. It doesn't really matter if it's unfixable as you could easily part it out for more than that, so everything's gravy :)
I say do it :)

Yep :) would be great for you over in the States. Tons of wheel options :)
Unless you want to be odd/weird and get some Rangey 3-spokes as well. Thinking about it, that sounds more like you :)

I've got 3 rangey wheels from my engine donor already (can't remember right off, might be a mix of three and five), which would fit on the Jag rear, but wouldn't look right on the truck at all. Plus, I'm planning to convert the Jag rear to 5/4.5 to match the front.
If I get an XJS, however...

That's barely run in for an LS400.
Tell Hardigree that Raph needs this now...

Well, there are so few left that would be a shame.
It's also not just the cost of the car - that one went for the price of a year's road tax, and then there's insurance, too, and the cost of putting it through an MOT.

Yeah that's stopped me from getting quite a few cars. Insurance is the big one for me, being 24...

Oh? I figured adding an extra car when you already have several wouldn't cost so much.
That Volvo's old enough to be on a sort-of classic policy - the premiums are about halfway between the really cheap classics and the cost of insuring a 1.0 Panda or some such. It's the bloody road tax which really pisses me off - £230 a year isn't too bad, but feels totally wrong on a car which cost £250.
Of course, the main issue is that I have enough to do sorting out the BMW, and I really don't need another project to piss off the neighbours with :)

Unfortunately we've maxed out our multicar policies as a family, so any new addition will have to start a whole new policy and doesn't benefit from a discount :(
I also get that with the existing projects. I've passed up on a couple of things that are really good deals (the current one is a TR7 FHC with all the bits needed to convert to a TR7 V8) because I really should be spending my money on the Triumph.
All in good time though :)

"Unfortunately we've maxed out our multicar policies as a family, so any new addition will have to start a whole new policy and doesn't benefit from a discount"
Even on a separate policy, don't you get big discounts as a 5th car or whatever?
With that Volvo, the most frustrating thing is that it doesn't even really need to be a project. Buy it, stick it back up on Ebay and let all the relevant forums know, and you'd be bound to make a profit.

Not so much unfortunately. It's still at least £700 for most interesting things, and considering they'd cost less than that to buy it's a bit galling.
Fingers crossed the buyer on the Volvo pulls out :) then you get the chance to doss around for a month or so and then sell it for a profit :)
That's the dream for these £300 cars anyway :)

"Fingers crossed the buyer on the Volvo pulls out :) then you get the chance to doss around for a month or so and then sell it for a profit :)"
Well, would be nice - but it's got no MOT, so there's the chance it needs stuff doing to pass. It doesn't have to be much before you're looking at a big bill compared to the price of the car. If I knew one way or the other, I might find the cash to pay someone else to fix it, because I'm sure it would still be worth more than the total spend.
The annoying part is that I have a friend who lives just round the corner from where the car is, but he knows nothing about cars so I can't get him to go check it out.
